The show consisted of six songs, telling the story of evacuee children in Cornwall.
I worked with the students over three weeks culminating in performances to staff, students, and parents.
The play follows the story of a money-hungry Lord and a Giant who just won't budge! Inspired by the medieval period, I worked with early music instruments, such as recorder and cornamuse, and wrote music influenced by counterpoint and early folk music. Early in the process, my co-composer/musician and I took the roles of 'court musicians', acting alongside the puppeteers.
Our first concert as an ensemble was a Eurovision-themed concert with the Songbirds Choir in Cardiff.
We performed Charpentier's 'Te Deum', as well as a medley of Eurovision winning songs that I arranged!
Our second concert was an incredible night of LGBTQ+ musical theatre, joined by performers at the college.
We performed a variety of iconic queer songs, alongisde queer-ly re-imagined classics.
Musicals featured include West Side Story, Fun Home, and Kinky Boots.
